Infoblox releases NIOS 6
01/11/2011
Infoblox has released NIOS 6.0 software update. The release contains the following enhancements to existing NIOS capabilities:
- An IP Address Management (IPAM) for Microsoft authentication enhancement which allows Infoblox IPAM administration through a less privileged Microsoft server account than a Domain Administrator. The new authentication feature allows any account with appropriate DNS and DHCP management privileges to be used.
- A CSV Import Tool which automates population of the NIOS database from a CSV formatted file. Before creating the CSV file, partners can reference the Infoblox documentation, which tells them how to associate their data fields with the structures NIOS uses to store its data. Then, when the data is imported, NIOS knows how to align the fields. The actual import is done through the Infoblox GUI.
- Rule-based DNS Redirection which enables management control of DNS lookups by filtering DNS requests and resolving them according to the rules engine policies. The polices define a condition and a corresponding action for any DNS request. The conditions are based on the Domain Name within the URL (wildcards are supported). The actions consist of the following: Pass (resolve and log), Redirect to a new location (and log), Do Not Resolve (and log)
- Domain Blacklisting: With blacklisting, the condition is simply any match against a prohibited list of Domain names. The responses are the same options as for Rule-based DNS Redirection.
- Automated Lease Garbage Collection: scheduled clean-up of used DHCP leases. Commonly used in wifi “hot-spot” environments where the number of leases are many, used for a short period of time and never reclaimed.
- The ability to Host bloxTools on a Grid member rather than on the Grid Master and allocate up to 1024 MB of memory and 4 GB of disk space to applications which enable more resource intensive applications in the bloxTools environment.
- A Roaming Hosts enhancement which allows a global definition of a Roaming Host which will consistently get the same DDNS name throughout an enterprise campus
- Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) Anycast Support: adds BGP protocol support, to existing Open Shortest Path First (OSPF) DNS Anycast support.
