Juniper Networks - WAN acceleration

WAN acceleration can breathe new life into lethargic WAN circuits. With the ever growing global demands and data consolidation projects, WAN circuits are not keeping up with user/IT demands or expectations. Worse, proper design of distributed networks requires a mix of challenging technical requirements including:
  • Increased need for bandwidth
  • Desire for reduced latency
  • Visibility into what traffic is occurring across the WAN links
  • Prioritization of traffic or QoS
  • Ability to utilize and assess backup circuits
  • Centralized management

Just adding additional bandwidth isn't enough. Single stream applications still suffer from the effect of latency (we haven't yet figured out how to go faster than the speed of light). Sending a packet of information still requires the typical acknowledgment packet to send more data. This causes delays regardless of the circuit bandwidth. Furthermore, without some kind of prioritization or QoS mechanism, competing traffic can affect the quality of critical applications, such as VoIP, video or mission critical applications.

Juniper offers a scalable choice of solutions that can substantially increase your bandwidth without incurring additional monthly circuit costs, gain visibility into the content and usage of your circuits, reduce costs and allow the consolidation of services.

Juniper's solution offers direct measurable benefits in a wide variety of applications and offers exceptional performance and throughput advantages for MAPI (use by Microsoft for Exchange Email) and CIFS (Microsoft file sharing). Due to the memory and disk based compression and caching algorithms, it's not unusual to get substantial improvements for a wide variety of applications, including Microsoft Exchange, CIFS file access and remote backups.

Unlike competing file based solutions, Juniper uses a byte based approach to compression and caching that alleviates problems due to file locking, cache coherency, file changes and different protocols or applications used to transfer same data (e.g. ftp, Email and CIFS file transfers).

Juniper offers additional configuration control, centralized reporting and data repository capability, including trending via the optional CMS application.
