I'll just say it, this is a game changer. To say it's just a next generation firewall is insulting and limiting. It doesn't even have to be deployed or setup as a firewall. This has it all, features, speed, reporting, interactive maps and stellar support. These guys are really hot right now!
WIIFY: Speed, control, access and visibility. Application not port control, these days it's all about port 80 and the ever elusive encrypted (443) traffic. Forget about URLs, focus on the various web 2.0 social networking applications. You also get true user accounting and control, not just IP addresses. Better yet, you can use QoS rate limiting features (especially important for Higher Ed). Less boxes and latency because you can include IPS, malware, anti-virus, bandwidth utilizations, application awareness and URL all on one high-speed platform that inspects a packet just one time. Lots of ports that can be setup to monitor mirror ports, virtual wire inline or traditional L2/L3 and yes, you can mix and match. Wait, there's more, there is also a SSL VPN component!
Try it: We own a couple of our own units and can draw also from Palo Alto Networks. I myself didn't truly appreciate how significantly different this was until I used it extensivly in our own network.

Reliable and scalable core network services.
Well, it's not sexy but it works. Hey, that's a model that worked exceptionally well for Cisco in terms of routers and PIX firewalls! Cisco proved the model, core network services need to run on reliable and scable appliances. However, most customers still run DNS, DHCP, NTP, and TFTP on general purpose systems, why? Solutions like round robin DNS are horrible. Admins also change records and make mistakes affecting services for everyone.

Load balancers at twice the speed and half the cost.
Another example of it just has to consistently work, A10 is all about speed. Some of their solutions such as their load balancers are easy to understand and A10 offers the most scable, best performing and native 64 bit platforms out there. Other solutions such as mapping IP address to users are extremely capable and useful, once you wrap your head around it and understand the value and importance. If you need reliable high performance applications and maybe even involving DR site(s), you need A10.

It's kind of boring, but we all need it. While it can be used in an enterprise solution, we all should be carrying these as security professionals.
